HOW DO THEY WORK?

Fixed appliances (braces) form the basis of modern orthodontic treatment.

Their precision shaped slots glued directly onto the teeth and the exact fit between the slot and the latest superelastic

wires enables forces to be applied to the teeth in three dimensions.

This force through the tooth onto the bone causes the bone to reshape and this reshaping allows the tooth to move.

The teeth move to the positions we all want if:

  1. The orthodontist sets up the correct forces.
  2. You take care of the forces, and so use the appliances exactly as we show you.

               WE CANNOT SUCCEED WITHOUT EACH OTHER !

 

THE DIFFERENT PARTS THAT MAKE UP YOUR BRACES!

  1. MOLARBAND

The ring of metal that is

glued onto the back molar tooth. The headgear and the archwire fit into the tubes attached to the band.

2.  BRACKET

The attachment bonded directly to the tooth. This carries the precision slot.

3.  ARCHWIRE

Removable wires that fit around the arch into the bracket slots.

4.  MODULES

The elastic that fits around the bracket holding the archwire into the slot in the bracket. This is the coloured part that is changed every few visits.

5.  LIGATURE WIRE

A tiny wire that ties the archwire into the bracket slots.

 

BRACES - The Choice is Yours!

Our Orthodontic practice is now offering a variety of orthodontic brackets to straighten your teeth!

1] STAINLESS STEEL BRACKETS: The most widely used brackets around. These brackets are small and very attractive - especially when you add some COLOURED bands onto them!

2] CERAMIC BRACKETS: These braces are made of ceramic. They are almost invisible and can look really good with coloured modules (if you like colours). They are usually placed on the top teeth, with stainless steel brackets on the lower teeth. Ceramic brackets are very abrasive and if used on the lower teeth, could rub against the top teeth when you close your mouth, damaging the top teeth.

3] SELF LIGATING BRACKETS: These brackets are constructed with a metal hinge to hold the wire in place. They allow the wire to stay active longer. This enables us to extend the time between your visits. These brackets do not need coloured modules.
